Nelson, South Island, New Zealand

Nelson is hailed as one of the NZ’s most ‘liveable’ cities that dishes up a winning combination of lots of cultural activities, great weather, beautiful surroundings and charming homes, buildings and the cathedral built circa 1800’s.  Nelson is also a two hour drive over the very windy Takaha Hill pass to the Abel Tasman National Park.  We would have loved to have kayaked in the park but after three days of nasty rains and flash floods, no one was willing to rent out kayaks in these turbulent waters.  So instead, we simply enjoyed the drive through the park and lunch in funky little Takaha.
