Arrowtown, South Island, New Zealand

Arrowtown sprang up in the 1860’s following the discovery of gold in the Arrow River.  Today the town retains more than 60 of its original wood and stone buildings, historic cemetery, tree-lined streets, Chinese settlements (gold-seekers from the 1860s to the 1880s) and great walking tracks along the Arrow River, including a trail to Macetown, a gold mining ghost town.
